The importance of community and being featured in „The Huts Magazine“ (22.06.22)
I am so proud and I want to share my excitement with you. Today the 5th issue of the international art magazine THE HUTS arrived, and it contains a lot of wonderful art, including a feature of the exhibition “Artist, Mother, Proud and Serious” that contained my pieces “Rapunzel” and “Morgain the Raven”. And I have a full page! I am proud and grateful!
Since I will tell you more about my fairy tale project soon, I want to focus on the importance of community in this newsletter. Why Community? Because I wouldn´t be featured in an international art magazine, calling myself an artist if it wasn´t for community! When I grew out of being a talented hobbyist and wanted to be more – an emerging artist- I needed a community where I felt save and understood in exactly this move. I needed people who had similar experiences, similar questions and where on a similar stage in their journey. I joined the ArtMumsUnited an international group of artists who are mothers.
When I started calling myself an artist, I didn´t only struggle with the concept of being a painting lawyer or a lawyer who sees herself as an artist, I also wasn´t sure if the fact that I am a mother would be an obstacle or to intimate to share at first place. Not only in my career as a lawyer have I experienced a lot of prejudices and obstacles because of my being o mother. I can´t and don´t want to act as if I didn´t have children and accompanying duties. But more than once I was told that this made me “unprofessional”. This sank in and left a mark. It helps to have a community of likeminded people with the same experiences! It helps if you don´t have to explain your feelings and struggles since your peers can relate. It makes you stronger to see, that you are not alone and there are others in a similar situation with the same dream and similar goals and obstacles! You realize that there are obstacles, but that its possible to overcome them or even to change them into an advantage!
I am grateful to be part of many different “communities”, meaning groups of people who share the same interests and experiences and are willing to connect.
Ich bin so stolz, euch heute diese Seite aus dem neusten THE HUTS Magazin, einer internationalen Zeitschrift für zeitgenössische, „junge“ Künstler zeigen zu können! Die Ausstellung „Artist, Mother, Proud and Serious“ ist darin abgebildet und meine beiden Bilder haben eine volle Seite! Ich freue mich so!
Als ich vor einem Jahr angefangen habe, mich Künstlerin zu nennen, habe ich viel ausprobiert. Darf ich mich Künstlerin und Juristin nennen, Künstlerin, Juristin und Mutter… was bin ich? Welche Aspekte von mir darf ich in welchem Kontext zeigen? Was gehört wohin? Wir sind ja so viele Teilaspekte, die unser wunderbares Ganzes formen und prägen, trotzdem zeigen wir in bestimmten Situationen und Zusammenhängen nicht alles. Das ist sicherlich oft auch sinnvoll und gut. Aber nicht immer! Die Tatsache, dass ich Mutter bin, hat mich und mein Leben verändert. Und die Art, wie ich wahrgenommen werde! Auch in beruflichen Kontexten. Ich will und kann nicht mehr so handeln, als wäre ich keine Mutter und hätte keine entsprechenden Pflichten. Oft genug ist mir das als „unprofessionell“ angekreidet worden. Das tut weh und man wird vorsichtig. Da hat es mir geholfen, die ArtMumsUnited zu finden und Mitglied zu werden. Eine internationale Gruppe von aufstrebenden Künstlerinnen, die alle Mütter sind. Wir teilen Erfahrungen, Wünsche, Schwierigkeiten und können uns gegenseitig unterstützen, da wir wissen, was die andere gerade durchmacht. Wir feiern gemeinsam unsere Erfolge, können die Trauer über Misserfolge nachvollziehen und uns gegenseitig helfen.
