Sterntaler (Starmoney)

This painting is based on the German fairy tale “Sterntaler” (Starmoney). Sterntaler is a little orphan girl, who is so caring and kind that she donates her last piece of clothing to another poor child, that is freezing to death. As she stands naked in the cold moonlight, many stars fell upon her and were pure gold. The poor girl was repaid for her generosity.

In my interpretation the heavenly money is a second chance. Without it she would have died of cold, but she grew up and understood that it´s important to take care of herself as well as of others. She comprehended that selfcare isn´t egoism and that she can´t help anybody if she dies of cold or neglect.

This piece is inspired by my dear colleague who especially loves this fairy tale and kindly agreed to be my model.

Sterntaler

Dieses neue Bild „Sterntaler“ gehört in meine Serie „Mehr als ein Märchen“, die im Oktober online bei ArtMumsUnited zu sehen sein wird. (Details folgen dann natürlich.) Sie ist inspiriert von einer lieben Kollegin, deren Lieblingsmärchen die Geschichte von Sterntaler ist. Ein Mädchen, dass so lieb und fürsorglich ist, dass sie bereit ist, ihr letztes Hemd für andere zu geben – ohne Rücksicht auf die eigene Zukunft oder eigene Bedürfnisse. Als sie nackt im nächtlichen Wald steht, fallen die Sterne als Goldtaler zu ihr hinunter und sie hat mehr als genug, um nicht nur sich, sondern auch andere zu versorgen.

In meinem Bild ist Sterntaler erwachsen geworden. Sie hat gelernt, auf ihre eigenen Bedürfnisse zu achten, denn nur dann kann sie langfristig und nachhaltig für andere da sein. Der Himmel hat ihr eine zweite Chance gegeben, so dass ihre kindlich naive Bereitschaft, alles zu geben zu einer Güte reifen konnte, die sich selbst miteinschließt.
